Lesson 46 – Doodles Do Algebra

Today’s lesson is the last bit of subtracting polynomials. Your child is going to practice rewriting polynomials so that all the terms but the first are subtracted from the first term. This means using parentheses and learning how to change signs.


Problem 1. b+c-d becomes b-(-c+d) – if this doesn’t make sense to you or your kiddo, just explain the hippo hopping concept, in conjunction with “negative times a negative is a positive”

Problem 2. x^2 - (2xy - z)

Problem 3. ax - (-bc + cd - h)

Problem 4. m - (n - z - s)
